An Israeli-Russian national was apprehended at Ben-Gurion Airport on May 1 while allegedly attempting to flee under a false identity. Alexander Gurevich, who had recently changed his name and obtained a new passport, now faces extradition to the U.S. in connection with a 2022 crypto hack that resulted in nearly $190 million in damages.
U.S. prosecutors allege Gurevich exploited a vulnerability in the Nomad blockchain platform on August 1, 2022, siphoning approximately $2.89 million in cryptocurrency. The arrest highlights ongoing international efforts to combat high-profile crypto thefts and enforce cross-border accountability.
